the one thing i have never done before....

(click to enlarge and read...I thought it was so true)
Alright so I have never entered a graveyard without a family member or close friend's passing.
I didn't really think anyone did this until a really interesting entrepreneur in Salisbury (who I am going to feature tomorrow) suggested that we should check out a cemetery a short walk away from his amazing coffeehouse.
It really was worthy of walking in.
I somehow am in awe of old tombstones and so interested in the lives that have gone on before us.
Little tiny graves, concrete tombs above ground with their lids slightly cracked from age, interesting branch sculptures to hold candles....call me morbid but there is something in believing in an afterlife that makes it all the more interesting and intriguing to me.
I wonder if in heaven I will meet these people and if they will share the stories of their life with us.
I normally don't think about death until someone close to me dies but in this Salisbury cemetery I did kind of wonder what it will be like to die and if I have been doing well in this journey so far.
(Don ummm...relaxing in the cemetery)

Please tell me that I am not the only one curious about this or I may feel kind of creepy.
(I may possibly have one more post to come today from this interesting city.)

I love your blog, it is so interesting!! Makes me feel like we live closer even though we don't.

Just wanted to comment on your Cemetery post because I am just reading the book 90 Minutes in Heaven and also Heaven is Real. Some of your comments about heaven hit home. It really will be amazing when you think about it.
This life here is just such a small part of the big picture.

Love ya and miss ya.

How interesting and dare I say fun? :) I love exploring old cemeteries. There are some good ones in the desert in Oregon from the frontiers, way out in the middle of nowhere. I've even seen a couple really, really old wooden headstones that say RIP, like in a cartoon or something (I hate to say that, it sounds so disrespectful! But it's the best way to describe them. I never thought those actually existed).

I love reading tombstones - I don't know why they've got this reputation of being creepy! They are tablets of love and friendship - the last words you want to say to a loved one; the remaining thoughts on their life! I think they are beautiful and the "Michael" one made me cry. Thanks for sharing these. K

I love that you wrote about this as I've always loved going to cemeteries! There's this famous on in Paris, called Pere-Lachaise which has many famous people buried in it, including Oscar Wilde. The best thing is the amazing old stones and structures, some of them huge and elaborate. If in Europe, you have to go there it's fantastic! anyone else been?

I don't think it's creepy at all. I've gone and done "photo shoots" in cemeteries (with people and just of headstones)-especially in Autumn when all of the trees are gorgeous. My dad and I also used to go and do rubbings of headstones... if there was something interesting about it or if it had beautiful characteristics. I'll post some pictures of a few of the rubbings that I turned into art and hung on my bedroom wall.

That pic of your hubs chillin in the graveyard made my day. Hilariously twisted ;)

I think I've walked through a cemetery maybe twice in my life. I guess my family doesn't really visit our cast-offs...
