busy hands: a happy heart...

Sitting quietly
Soft sounds of Sarah harmer filling the house
sipping a gingery drink
card making

I really hope to have Valentine's cards and a fun collage in the shop by this evening.
 Happy Tuesday!

its not what she thought but she flies like a bird...

If a collage could be a self portrait, this would be mine.
I love that I was able to use a receipt from 1954 in this piece
along with some other very fun bits and pieces.
It may never show up in our shop but that doesn't mean I don't love it.
Is it selfish if I want to keep this one to myself?

Happy Happy Weekend my sweet, lovely friends!!
Wishing you a great one!

i heart canadian music....

My brother, Kevin gifted us with two cds of  his friends' band from B.C. Canada, (where I lived before I moved here to the deep South) for this past Christmas.
I really like them and had to share.
Yay for Canadian musicians!!
Thanks Kev!

ran away from home today...

After feeling a little overworked and trapped yesterday, I thought perhaps running away to the city of Charlotte might do us girls a world of good.
So we went to my favourite art shop, then off to the park/playground,

over to see our lovely friend Teresa @ Pura Vida, enjoyed a chai,

then onto a very fun vintage shop, Hong Kong
which is now located across the street from Pura Vida,
(a wonderfully playful area to spend part of an afternoon)

a little walk down Central Avenue and then
we returned home again,
home again...
jiggity jig.
We really liked running away from home.
What are you up to today, friends?
Hoping whatever it is, that you find time to have a little fun.

stuck in a laundry basket ...

I spent most of the night cleaning up the messes of a very ill little Bella.
(who is finally feeling better this morning)
We have a pile of laundry the height of a small  mountain already, then add to that our other 3 children returning from winter camp this afternoon , so I may never escape our laundry area.

Also another mountain of shipments that need mailing.
(With today's American holiday, making that rather impossible)
Oh alright...
enough of my whining...
Do you have days that feel like the work keeps getting bigger while you keep feeling smaller?
This is one of those days and so I allow myself a never ending cup of mocha with loads of espresso.

and a snuggle up on our sofa with my very favourite pillow from my sweet, friend Barb of Knack.

Check out her positively stunning piece, Ophelia.

And then on a not so happy note,
I strolled down to her prior post and I realized how good I have it...
pile of laundry, mail and a million other things on the go can't compare to anything that her friend, Gina Drennon is facing.

can you feel it.....

Can you feel the love?
I've been working on some 'love' based collages for next month.
Hoping to have them printed onto cards for Valentine's Day.

Fingers are covered in bits of paper and glue...
Bella was supposed to be colouring Muno from Yo Gabba Gabba but her markers ended up colouring my table...
So all in all we are a lovey, messy duo.

Happy Thursday!
Hoping yours is full of heart and art.

love this idea...

I don't know why this is, but every so often I find some odd item that has meaning to me but no real purpose.
For instance sea glass I collected from the beaches of Vancouver, metal numbers and letters and then there is the rusty old Canadian made vintage bike that I have on my back porch.
I used this bike in Vancouver as my transportation a lot and loved it but now the tires are ruined and I can't seem to find anyone who sells the tubes or tires in its size.
I have looked everywhere for them on line, in bike part stores and 2nd hand shops.
All of which have let me down in the search of old CCM tires.
I have kept the bike for its memory sake and hoped that one day I might find a special spot for it.

So this morning, when I ran across blogging friend, Annamaria's blog post from a while ago, with a
purposeful use for an old bike, I thought perhaps there is hope for my; not so attractive, old, memory-filled bike.
Mine obviously is a girl version, so this may not work so well.

Any ideas?
Happy Wednesday, everyone!!

headin for the hills...

We aren't buying a horse or going on a cattle drive just yet but ...
the hope is to move to the mountains this year.
We aren't sure of an exact location but over the past year we have discussed the life we want to build and decided that a mountainous but still fairly lush area would be the perfect spot to build this lifestyle.

Who knows, it is still early in the year, but the goal regardless will be to escape the x-burbs.
We decided to put a hold on the coffee shop plans while the kids are still at home because we really want to be there for them as much as we can.

We've  hoped for a while to work together from a big barn like studio.
I hope to get into welding, metal sculpture and gardening, while Don hopes to build guitars as a hobby, while continuing his work as a webmaster.

So the plan is to find a location that sports a home big enough for us all and an out building big enough for a studio and possibly little areas to, yes; raise chickens and a goat.
So there you have it:
2010 is our year to become hillbillies!
;)
Thanks for making me smile with all of  your wonderful comments on our last post.

surprises...

We knew my mom and dad were going to be here for the holidays but we did have a sweet surprise as well,  a short visit to Charleston with my brother, Kevin.

The kids all adore him.  It made for a wonderful finish to the holidays.  The only thing that could have been better was to have had my sister and her little family here too but that didn't work out this holiday season, maybe next time.

We loved Charleston and our time with my family and look forward to seeing them again.

Thought I would share a wee bit of our trip with you all.
(I may have gone overboard with photos.  I apologize in advance.)

Good memories and sad goodbyes!
Hoping you all had a wonderful holiday season too!

to make us smile...

We took my family to the airport and are missing them dearly today,
so I thought this picture of Bella with her little stache might cheer us up.
Hoping to be back to normal blogging tomorrow.
Miss you all!
